In this project graduate students in the
Mount Royal Prgram at
Maryland
Institute College of Art have curated virtual exhibitions of artwork centered around specific themes.

The works depicted in this exhibition evoke the imagined and humorous world of dreams. Underneath each fantasy lies the artists’ visual denouncement of social and sexual mores, political injustice and economic disparity. The appropriation of cultural icons such as mythological symbols and characters, as well as children’s book illustrations serve as visual references to the narratives.

Since the dawn of art theory, art has been discussed in terms of imitation.
In preparing this exhibition, various historical approaches were considered.
This exhibition surveys the objects and strategies of imitation in art and
their relation to dominant beliefs of what is most real. This exhibition looks
at imitation as a deliberate strategy diversely employed by artists toward
a variety of artistic, conceptual, and political ends.
